Eloquent Indian Art Paintings: A Glimpse of the Country’s Rituals & Traditions

India is a land of rich culture. Be it urban, tribal, or rural civilization, the beauty of the country’s culture and rich traditions has been, for years, beautifully portrayed by the famous Indian artists in their paintings and artwork.

Indian sculptures and paintings lavishly portray and speak the language of the nations glory. The sketches showcase the language of India's civilization, culture, traditions, food, and expressions. Although, there is no evident proof of when and where it started, yet the oldest paintings are believed to be sketched on the wall. Other works that popularly outline India’s heritage are Rangoli and door/veranda outlines. Artists exhibiting their famous paintings are widely known to use bold color strokes to symbolize their artwork. Each brush stroke neatly and cleverly reflects the painter’s thought process.

The most inspired art, which is known to draw inspiration from the country's religious literature, including Ramayana, Mahabharata, and other mythologies like bravery, joy, and love are the wall paintings.
Other popular paintings representing Indian heritage are:

Mural Art: This art form originated in the South West India and dates back to the early 6th century. The famous murals of Ajanta & Ellora caves are globally appreciated by art lovers worldwide. Such murals are mainly based on the subjects like colorful and extravagant pictures, Buddhism, and stylish images of Indian Gods and Goddesses.

Mughal Paintings: This is another widely celebrated Indian Art Painting, which started during the Humayun era and further flourished in the Shajahan and Jahangir era. It encompasses an amalgamation of Persian, Indian, and Islamic painting style that blossomed between 16th and 18th century.

Madhubani Paintings: These paintings originate their roots from Madhuvan (Bihar). They are also popularly known as Mithila paintings. They were traditionally performed on floors and mud wall of hut, but are presently done on handmade papers and canvases.

Rajasthani Paintings: This type of artwork started during 18th century, when royal courts of the Rajasthan emperors fondly inspired Mughal paintings. They are known to portray Rajasthan-based themes, such as dessert, forts, and rural women.

Indian paintings have always been popular among art lovers across the globe. The themes of these paintings are a perfect mix of the country’s mythology, heritage, and culture.
